A Moon Star Is Born

NARRATOR: A thousand years ago, our moon was home to a great civilization ruled by Queen Serenity. Everything was peaceful, until the arrival of the evil Queen Beryl.
QUEEN BERYL: *laugh* First the Moon shall be mine, then the universe!
NARRATOR: To conquer the Moon, Queen Beryl unleashed the awesome power of the Nega Force. Although her world was destroyed, Queen Serenity's last hope was the power of the Imperial Silver Crystal and the Crescent Moon Wand.
QUEEN SERENITY: Only this crystal and wand can combat the power of the Nega Force. Never let our enemies get them of the universe is doomed. But most of all, you must protect our dear Princess Serena. Understand?
LUNA & ARTEMIS: Yes!
NARRATOR: Frozen in Moonbeam Crystals, the Queen sent the Princess and the Children of the Moon to the future on Earth. Their memories lost to them all. the Queen's cat advisors, Luna and Artemis, must find the Princess so she will at last be safe. And so, our story begins!

[An alarm goes off, and Serena Tsukino sits up in bed.]

SERENA: Oh no! I'm late for school again! Mother! Why didn't you wake me up in time for the first bell?
MRS. TSUKINO: I did, Serena, darling. Three times. And each time you said you were getting up right away.
SERENA: And you believed me?
MRS. TSUKINO: Serena!
SERENA: I've got to go!
MRS. TSUKINO: Aren't you forgetting something, dear?
SERENA: What?

[Sees her school lunch on the table.]

SERENA: Oh, yeah. Bye, Mom! See you after school!

[On the way to school.]

SERENA: *yawn* I'm so sleepy. Why can't today be Saturday?

[Serena passes a parking lot, but stops at the sight of three kids gathered around a cat.]

KID 1: Hold still! I want to fell it's tongue!
KID 2: I'm trying!
SERENA: Hey, stop it! Leave that cat alone!

[The kids run away as Serena picks up the cat.]

SERENA: Rotten brats! You poor thing! Did those creepy kids hurt you, kitty?
LUNA: *meows hysterically*
SERENA: You're okay. But how about I take this bandage off of you.

[Serena removes two Band-Aids that were stuck on the kitty's forehead, revealing a gold crescent moon symbol.]

SERENA: Huh? Is that a crescent moon?

[Luna jumps onto the top of a car and stares at Serena.]

LUNA: (thinking) This girl. I sense something.
SERENA: Nice kitty! Oh, great, now I'm really late!

[Serena runs down the street.]

LUNA: (thinking) Could she be the one?

[At Crossroads Junior High School, Serena is standing in front of the class, eating a snack.]

SERENA: Hey, did you hear? There's a new Sailor V video game out. I saw it on TV.

[Miss Haruna enters the classroom.]

MISS HARUNA: Serena, you need more studying and less TV. There isn't any excuse for failing this exam.

[Miss Haruna holds up Serena's test paper with a red 30 written on it.]

SERENA: Huh? I failed? How can that be?
MISS HARUNA: Have your mother sign this and return it to me.

[Outside, Serena's sitting on the edge of the sidewalk and her friend Molly is standing nearby.]

MOLLY: Chill out, Serena. It's just one lousy test. It's not like it's the end of the world or something.
SERENA: You don't get it, Molly. If my mom finds out I flunked that test, she'll ground me and cut my allowance, and I won't be able to play the new Sailor V game!

[Melvin walks up to the two girls.]

MELVIN: Hey, Serena, I heard about your test. Want me to be your tutor?
SERENA: About as much as a toothache.
MOLLY: You're such a dweeb, Melvin. She doesn't need a tutor, she needs a trip to the mall to get her mind off this. Tell your mom you're at my house studying.
MELVIN: You're going shopping? What's more important than your grades? Look, I didn't study and I only got a 95. How will I ever be able to explain this to my parents?
MOLLY: Do we care?
SERENA: *cries*
MOLLY: What? We're going shopping. By the time you get home, your mom will have forgotten all about that dumb test.
SERENA: Do you really think so?
MOLLY: I know so. I saw some major awesome boots on sale. We can get ice cream, then shop some more!
SERENA: Can we look for some earring?
MOLLY: Good idea! We can go to my mom's jewelry store! She's got some major cool stuff! I mean, wicked cool!
SERENA: I could use some new pink barrettes for my hair.
MOLLY: Oh, she's got all kinds of great things. You've got to see it! It will blow you away! Diamonds, rubies, emeralds! All kinds of stuff! Even some rhinestones!
SERENA: Rhinestones! I love them!
MOLLY: She's got lots of them, in lots of colors!
SERENA: Pink and purple?
MOLLY: Oh, like, for sure!
SERENA: All right, what are we waiting for? Let's go!

[Serena and Molly leave.]

MELVIN: Serena, beautiful but a shop-a-holic.

[In Queen Beryl's castle, the Queen is sitting in her throne and a group of minions are lined up in front of her.]

QUEEN BERYL: The Oracle says it's time to attack the other dimension to unleash the power of the Nega Force!
MINIONS: Yes! Yes!
QUEEN BERYL: But to do so, I shall require energy. Yes, a great deal of energy. We shall get it from the planet Earth. So, Jedite, present yourself and tell me of your progress there.

[Jedite appears in front of the Queen.]

JEDITE: Yes, Queen Beryl. As we speak, my servant Morga is on the other side preparing to gather energy. The humans are weak and helpless and they will yield to our will and then nothing will stand in the way of the great Nega Force!
QUEEN BERYL: Do not fail me, Jedite. I need their energy.
JEDITE: Yes, my Queen.

[At Molly's mother's jewelry store, the store is packed with customers as Serena and Molly arrive.]

MOLLY'S MOM: Come on in! Everyone's welcome! Make me an offer!
CUSTOMER: Oh, these are so beautiful!
SERENA: Molly, what's going on?
MOLLY'S MOM: Welcome, ladies! Here's your chance to own diamonds, sapphires,...
MOLLY: I don't get it. My mom is sure acting strange.
SERENA: Yeah. What did she put in her coffee this morning?
MOLLY'S MOM: Today only, everything in the store is ninety per cent off. Please feel free to try on anything. *smiles evily* *laughs* And surrender your frantic energy to Queen Beryl and the Nega Force. For I am Morga, loyal disciple to the Negaverse, and my jewels will drain away all your energy!
JEDITE: You have done well, Morga. So much greed! So much energy! Queen Beryl will be most pleased! Feed the Nega Force, foolish humans! Queen Beryl will soon triumph. Prepare them, Morga, for her triumphant arrival. *laughs*
MORGA: With pleasure.
MOLLY: Momma!

[Morga quickly returns to her role as Molly's mom.]

MOLLY'S MOM: Oh, Molly, what a surprise!
MOLLY: Serena and I came to see some...
SERENA: Rhinestone jewelry!
MOLLY'S MOM: Rhinestones?! Don't be silly now, girls. Help yourself to some diamonds instead. There are plenty to go around.
SERENA: Diamonds?
MOLLY'S MOM: Why, yes! Any friend of Molly's deserves nothing but the best.
SERENA: I can't believe this! I totally can't believe this!

[Molly's mom holds out a diamond ring in a box.]

MOLLY'S MOM: Here, Serena, would you like to try on this ring?
SERENA: Wow, would I?
MOLLY'S MOM: It's a flawless twenty carat diamond! For you, ten dollars.
SERENA & MOLLY: Twenty carats, ten dollars?

[The other customers in the store suddenly crowd around the counter, one of them pushing Serena and Molly away.]

CUSTOMER: Mine!

[The customers clamor to purchase the diamonds, while Serena and Molly crawl out from the crowd and stand near the door.]

MOLLY: Serena, this is way weird.
SERENA: What's up with your mom, Molly? I've never seen her like this before.
MOLLY: I don't know, but I'm worried.
SERENA: This place is totally wacko, Molly. What's going on?
MOLLY: Where are you going?
SERENA: I think I'll take a nap before showing my mom my grades.
MOLLY: Okay, see you tomorrow, Serena.

[Walking down the street, Serena pulls out her test.]

SERENA: Oh, no! How can I tell my mom I flunked another test? Oh, how can I show her this thing?!

[Serena crumbles the paper up into a ball and throws it behind her where in bounces of a store awning and hitting Darien in the head.]

DARIEN: Hey, watch it meatball-head.
SERENA: Huh? Oh, sorry.

[Serena turns and sees Darien looking at her crumpled test.]

DARIEN: A thirty? Admirable.
SERENA: Ah!
DARIEN: Are you stupid, or just incredibly lazy?
SERENA: Hmph. How dare you! Give me that!

[Serena snatches the test out of Darien's hand and walks away.]

SERENA: Hmph. The nerve of that guy calling me a meatball-head! Still, he sure is cute.
DARIEN: (thinking) Something about that girl...

[Serena walks by a video arcade where she spots a Sailor V poster.]

SERENA: Oh! The new Sailor V video gam! Ah. Oh, I wish I could be like Sailor V. She's so beautiful and smart. Something exciting is always happening in her life. Not like mine.

[Luna peeks around the corner of the arcade.]

SERENA: Who am I kidding? I'll never be like Sailor V. Not with grades like this! Mom's going to blow a gasket when she sees this. Oh, what am I going to do? *cries*
LUNA: (thinking) I can't believe it! This cry baby? She's the one?

[Serena enters her house where her mom is waiting.]

MRS. TSUKINO: So, how did you do on yesterday's Algebra test?
SERENA: Uh, test in Algebra?
MRS. TSUKINO: You know, the one you were studying for the other night with Melvin. You two were up so late at the library. Melvin's mom said he got a 95 and they're very disappointed.
SERENA: Oh yeah, that Algebra test. Well, see... that is...
MRS. TSUKINO: Serena, how did you do?
SERENA: Well, you see... It's like this. I... ah, well...
MRS. TSUKINO: Let me see.
SERENA: Okay.

[Serena holds up her test for her mother who promptly turns on Serena.]

MRS. TSUKINO: 30?! You said you studied! Know what you need to do?
SERENA: No.
MRS. TSUKINO: Go back to the library and study for a make-up test!

[Serena's mom kicks her out of the house and slams the door.]

SERENA: Mother, no! *cries* Please, it's too late in the afternoon to study! It's bad for the brain! *cries*

[At Molly's mom's shop, the jewelry that the customer's are wearing starts to glow.]

CUSTOMER 1: Something's wrong. I feel so strange.
CUSTOMER 2: Mercy me! I feel as if I'm going to faint! Oh!
CUSTOMERS: Oh!

[All the customers fall to the floor in a faint.]

MOLLY: Momma, I'm scared. What's happening to all your customers? Momma?
MORGA: *laughs*
MOLLY: Momma?!
MORGA: I'm not your mother, Molly dear. *laughs*
MOLLY: Ah!

[Back in Serena's bedroom, Serena is lying on her bed.]

SERENA: Studying so hard is very tiring. All those books! All those words! It can't be too good for a person. How does Melvin do it? Oh, I'm so sleepy. So tired. Oh, sleep. *yawn*

[Serena turns over and falls asleep. Behind her, her window opens. The sound of it closing wakes Serena up.]

SERENA: Huh?

[Serena turns over and sees the black cat, Luna, standing on her bed, causing her to fall off the bed.]

SERENA: You scared me! What are you doing here?
LUNA: Why, Serena. I came to see you, of course. Who else?
SERENA: Huh? A talking cat?! Oh, man, I've been studying too hard!
LUNA: My name is Luna, and I have been searching for you for a very long time.
SERENA: Ah...
LUNA: You are the chosen one and I have been sent here to guide you on the path to your ultimate destiny. I wasn't sure if you were the one the first time we met, but I've been watching you. And now I absolutely that you are the Sailor Scout of the Moon. *laughs*

[Serena puts her head in her arms.]

SERENA: I'm hallucinating.

[Luna pushes on Serena's head.]

LUNA: No, you're not, Serena. You are Sailor Moon, and your friend Molly is in big trouble. You have got to help her! You don't believe me? Well, all right then, I'll prove it to you!

[Luna flips through the air and a circular locket falls on the bed in front of Serena, who peeks up.]

SERENA: Huh? What is that?
LUNA: It's a special locket, just for you.

[Serena picks it up.]

SERENA: Wow. For me? It's beautiful! How should I wear it? On my school uniform...
LUNA: Serena, it's not just a piece of jewelry.

[Luna jumps up into Serena's vanity.]

LUNA: Listen to me! Do you hear what I'm saying? Sailor Moon, sworn to defend the Princess of the Moon! Powerful evil forces have appeared here on Earth and that special locket can help you fight them. You are Sailor Moon and you must fight evil when it confronts you! You must not be afraid.
SERENA: Yeah, right! Just like Sailor V!
LUNA: This is no joke, Serena. Do you hear me? This is your destiny!
SERENA: My destiny? I must be dreaming.
LUNA: It's no dream. I'll prove it, Serena. Just repeat after me: Moon Prism Power!
SERENA: Okay. Moon Prism Power!

[Serena transforms into Sailor Moon.]

SAILOR MOON: Ah! What happened? This dream is getting weirder and weirder! I'll never study that hard again! I want to play Sailor V video games, I don't want to live them!

[The red circles on Sailor Moon's head start to glow.]

MOLLY: Help me! Please help me! Somebody please help me!
SAILOR MOON: Huh? That's Molly!
LUNA: That's right. She's in big trouble.
SAILOR MOON: Yeah, but what can I do to help? You keep forgetting I'm just a kid.
LUNA: You are Sailor Moon. You will know what to do when you look into your heart. Believe in yourself.
SAILOR MOON: Okay.

[Back at Molly's mom's shop. Morga is holding Molly captive.]

MOLLY: Somebody please help me! *cries*
MORGA: There's no one to help you know, little girl.
MOLLY: Oh, help me!
MORGA: *laughs*
MOLLY: Ah!
MORGA: Soon, you and your kind will cease to exist. Once Queen Beryl unleashes the Nega Force, she will destroy you all!
SAILOR MOON: Let her go! MORGA: Who's that?

[In a doorway stands Sailor Moon.]

SAILOR MOON: I said, let her go!
MORGA: And who are you?
SAILOR MOON: Well, my name's... I am Sailor Moon, the champion of justice! And I say, on behalf of the Moon, I shall right wrongs and triumph over evil! And that means you!
MORGA: Sailor Moon? Never heard of you. And I'm sure I never will again. Arise, my children, and serve the great power that is the Negaverse!

[All the customers have been turned into zombies as they rise up and advance on Sailor Moon.]

SAILOR MOON: Luna, help me! I don't know what to do!
CUSTOMER: Ah!

[The customers attack Sailor Moon.]

MORGA: *laughs*
SERENA: That hurt! I don't want to do this any more!
LUNA: Sailor Moon, what are you doing? You must fight this evil monster, or the whole universe could cease to exist!
MORGA: *laughs*
SAILOR MOON: I don't want to play this game any more! I want to go home! *cries*
MORGA: Fine I'll send you away for good! Yah!

[Morga advances on Sailor Moon.]

LUNA: Oh!
SERENA: Ah!

[A red rose slices through the air and lands between Morga and Sailor Moon.]

MORGA: Now, who might you be?
TUXEDO MASK: I am Tuxedo Mask! (to Sailor Moon) Sailor Moon, look into your heart and find the warrior within you. It is your destiny.
SAILOR MOON: But I don't want to be a warrior! *cries*

[The red pieces in her hair glow and send out energy waves that cause the zombie customers to fall to the floor and Morga to clutch her ears.]

MORGA: Stop that idiot's crying!
SERENA: *cries*
LUNA: Sailor Moon, quickly throw your tiara and then say, "Moon Tiara Magic!"
SAILOR MOON: What for, Luna? What good is that going to do?
LUNA: Just do it!

[Sailor Moon removes her tiara.]

SAILOR MOON: Moon Tiara Magic!

[The tiara flies straight at Morga.]

MORGA: No!

[It hits Morga, who doubles over in pain.]

SAILOR MOON: Huh? I did that?
MORGA: I shall return!

[Morga disintegrates into a pile of dust and then just disappears.]

[Somewhere in a dark room, Jedite stand holding a ball of energy. Then the energy disappears.]

JEDITE: What?! The energy! Someone will pay dearly for this!

[Back at Molly's mom's store.]

TUXEDO MASK: You have done well, Sailor Moon, and now Molly's mother and all the other women are free. Others will test you. Do not be afraid. I will fight with you.

[Tuxedo Mask departs.]

SAILOR MOON: Oh.
LUNA: Are you all right, Sailor Moon? Speak to me!

[Sailor moon has hearts glowing in her eyes.]

SAILOR MOON: What a hunky guy!

[The next day at school, Molly and two other girls are talking before classes start. Serena is sitting at her desk with her head in her arms.]

MOLLY: Serena, you're not going to believe this, but my mom and I had the strangest dream last night that we were attacked by this hideous monster and that this beautiful warrior named Sailor Moon saved us!
GIRL 1: What? Are you kidding? I had the same dream!
GIRL 2: Me, too!
MOLLY: That's very weird. Serena, isn't that the weirdest? Serena?
SERENA: Hey, you guys, could you please keep it down? I was up late last night and I just need a little bit more sleep. *yawn* Good night.

SAILOR MOON SAYS

SERENA: Sometimes, the hardest thing in the world s believing in yourself. 'Specially when your grades are... *laughs* ...less than stellar. Or, you're kinda clumsy. But you never know what the real you can do. Set your mind and heart on it and anything is possible. *laughs* Bye now!
